The Best Day Of My Life - Vedant A Vakil

The Best Day Of My Life - Vedant A Vakil

- when in class X–A
I stepped into the school gates as an immature young boy, whose entire life revolved around food and chocolates. Today, after ten years in this institution, even though my life still revolves around food and chocolates, I am a young and responsible teenager. This school has moulded me into an intelligent and confident young man and so I decided to give back to my school by serving it as the School Captain. While filling in my form, I knew the journey would not be easy. I had stiff competitors, but I was prepared to face the challenges. I had always wished to see my name on the board of School Captains and I wanted to fulfill this aim. The list of candidates was announced. I was overjoyed when my friend Manan told me that I had been nominated. My fiercest competitor was Jay Rathore. I knew I stood only a very slim chance against him, because he had been the captain of the football team for three consecutive years. Also, all the juniors knew him. However, I wasn't going to give up. I would fight till the end.
My friends told me that Jay had already started his campaigning. He was going around promising students a spin in his fire engine red Ferrari. Let me tell you teenage boys are shameless car lovers. Jay also promised to use his considerable influence to get a few guys on the School’s football team! I had nothing to offer except a sincere heart, a willingness to work, and a will to be the best. On the day of the elections we had to give a speech to the entire school. Jay went up first and gave a really long speech, bragging about his qualifications and what he would do for the school after winning the elections. His wore the scoffing arrogance of a winner. Then I went on to the stage to address the students. I hadn't gone to any professional to write a speech, I spoke straight from the heart. “Dear Friends, I may not have the qualifications to boast about like my worthy opponent, but I have something that he doesn't – the will to serve my school day in and day out.” Though it was just a short speech, it appealed to the young audience, and when I walked off stage I was honoured with a huge round of enthusiastic applause.
Then it was ballot time. One – by – one the students cast their vote. My heart was beating like a jungle drum. After that was done, the Principal came forward to announce the results. He said, “Boys, I have great news for you all. The winner of this time's elections has won by the biggest majority ever! And the winner is Master Vedant Vakil.”
My joy knew no bound and I jumped up so high as though there were springs under my feet. My long – time dream of serving the school as School Captain had come true. My modesty had appealed to the students because of which I had won the elections hands – down. That was indeed the best day of my life.
